Welcome to an exciting process of discovery and change!
I will do all that I can to provide you with my best services.
It is your right and responsibility to choose the provider and treatment that best suits your needs.
Our first meeting will be free of charge in order for each of us to determine if we are a good match.
To help you make your choice, here is some basic information about me and my practice.
Training and Experience: I have been practicing since 1996, post-graduate since 1998. I have a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling and Art Therapy from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, California. I use techniques from a variety of theoretical orientations including family systems, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and art therapy. My experience includes work with children, adolescents and adults in individual and group settings.
Appointments: Appointments are 50 minutes long and begin at the hour scheduled. Appointments are in person and not on the phone or by email. Phone and email communication is used for scheduling purposes only, as it is not a secure form of communication. Teletherapy appointments are available as well, after the initial consultation in person.
Cancellations: When you make an appointment the time has been reserved exclusively for you. If you are not able to keep the appointment please notify me by phone at least 24 hours in advance. Full Fee will be charged for missed appointments or for appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
Fees and Billing:
The fee is $140 per 55 minute session for individuals and $165 for couples and families. The fee is due at the time of your appointment. I do not accept insurance payments at this time. I accept cash and check only. Payments can also be made with your credit card through the IVY pay app. I will provide you with a monthly invoice of payments that you can in turn submit to your insurance for re-imbursement.
Confidentiality: Confidentiality means that I have the responsibility to you to safeguard information obtained during treatment. All identifying information about your assessment and treatment is kept confidential. In order to protect your confidentiality, any written, telephone, or personal inquiries about you will not be responded to by me without a signed release of information form by you. The following are exceptions to confidentiality required by law:
- A mental health professional is required to report suspected child abuse or neglect and to report suspected abuse of the disabled or elderly.
- A mental health professional is required to disclose information to law enforcement personnel in order to protect the client or others when there is probability of immanent physical injury.
- A mental health professional may be required by the court to disclose treatment information in proceedings affecting the parent-child relationship.
- A mental health professional may disclose confidential information in proceedings brought by a patient against a professional.
- There is no confidentiality of mental health information in connection with criminal proceedings except communications by a person voluntarily in a substance abuse program.
- In the treatment of a minor client, a mental health professional may advise a parent, managing conservator or guardian of a minor, with or without the minor’s consent, of the treatment needed by or given to the minor.
Email and Cell phone use: Email and cell phones are considered “insecure forms of communication.” I will honor your confidentiality in all my communications with you outside of the office space. Email and cell phone communication will be limited to simple scheduling questions.
Risks of Counseling: Counseling has both benefits and risks. You may experience uncomfortable levels of feelings like sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, loneliness and helplessness. Your therapy may also involve recalling unpleasant aspects of your history. Psychotherapy has been shown to have benefits for those who participate in it. It can often lead to resolution of certain problems and better relationships. However, I can make no guarantees about how the therapy process will be for you specifically. You have the right to refuse treatment at any time.
I cannot provide emergency services. In the event of an emergency please contact the Crisis Clinic of King County (available 24 hours) at 206-461-3222 or call the National Hope Network at 1-800-784-2433.
If you have any concerns or complaints about any aspect of your treatment, please discuss them with me. If you feel that I have been unethical or unprofessional, you may contact the Counselor Program at the Department of Health’s Health Professions Quality Assurance Division, in the State of Washington.
The greatest risk of counseling is that it may not by itself resolve your concerns. We can assess your progress regularly as we meet. If a problem is outside the boundaries of my competence, I will refer you to another professional.
Counselors practicing counseling for a fee must be registered or licensed with the Department of Health for the protection of the public health and safety. Registration of an individual with the department does not include recognition of any practice standards, nor necessarily imply the effectiveness of any treatment. The purpose of the law regulating counselors is to provide protection for the public and to empower the citizens of the state of Washington by providing a complaint process against those counselors who engage in unethical conduct [WAC 246.810.031].
Your appointment is held exclusively for you. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please give at least 24 hours advance notice to cancel without fee.
